You lucky ducks! Triple Raz-kids again today. Lucky you :)
Dear Grade 5'ers, We have well and truly started our final unit for the year. The unit is titled "Our Place in Space and Society". I hope your child brought home the 'Inquiry Newsletter' to show you. Just in case they didn't, here it is; New StudentsIn the past two weeks, since returning from the Spring Break, we have added another two students to our class. Let's warmly welcome Jason Lim and Maelle Croix. Jason is from Korea, and has lived in Qingdao for 3 years. He transferred to QISS from ISQ. Maelle Croix is a French guest student. She will be in Qingdao with her family for the rest of the 2013-2014 academic year before returning to France. Above you can see our entire class celebrating Diana's birthday! Science LabAgain, our wonderful Upper School Science teacher, Skenny Darbouze, invited us to the Science Lab to touch, feel and learn about internal organs. Although this does not have a specific connection to our current unit of inquiry, I felt it was too good an opportunity to miss. The students learned about hearts, lungs and livers. Inquiry ScienceOur current Science inquiry relates to the Law of Motion, Forces, and Space and Earth Science. In these first few weeks, students continued their investigation into gravity, friction and inertia, then began to see this concepts in practice as they work to build their very own Rube Goldberg machines. To understand what a Rube Goldberg machine is, check this link. Essentially, it is a complicated series of contraptions that come together to do a simple task. Here is a Youtube video show some Rube Goldberg machines built in other classrooms. You will need a VPN to watch it of course. We started working on ours. It will be difficult, but hopefully we can build a successful Rube Goldberg machine for our final Key Assignment. Key DatesApril 23 & 24 - Student Led Conferences - 1:00 dismissal

Students should also complete Study Link 5-2 Students should also complete their Weekly Writing log. Don't forget to complete Raz-Kids each night, IXL every day, Daily Word problems and Vocabulary books. Although I attempt to upload homework every single evening, recently I have been unable to access the platform for posting information. Sometimes I can post the homework, while other days the website simply will not load.
Please continue to check in regularly, as I do try to post every night. Also, don't forget to check and sign your child's homework journal every night. That should be the primary source for students remembering what homework has been set. |
